Having owned and worked with horses for many years I firmly believe that horses are not naughty without reason. We ask an awful lot of them and if they do not respond in the way we expect, we are quick to put their responses down to ‘naughtiness’ or ”bad behaviour’. What we often don’t do is take the time to discover whether the undesired behaviour is down to pain, previous trauma or even miscommunication from ourselves and therefore misunderstanding on the part of the horse.
We, as humans, are quick to imprint negativity into the physical and mental wellbeing of the horse and this can be displayed in the horses’ change in behaviour. What we need to do is take a step back, start from scratch and start again.
Relationships between horse and owner can become strained when messages aren’t interpreted correctly, displays of negative behaviour become patterns and can become dangerous if not investigated and dealt with promptly. With time, understanding, clear communication and working holistically I aim to improve the emotional and physical energy within the horse, allowing positive energy to flow freely and the partnership to move forward in a positive and rewarding manner.
